My daughter Kat and I attended the Jazz Fest Kick-Off event for Book Lovers Con tonight. A local jazz band provided a lively backdrop to the Mardi Gras themed event.
There were four food trucks all delivering hot southern specialties to the party goers free of charge: Fete au Fete served :Blackened Pork Chops- Lightly blackened boneless pork chop with Bourbon cane syrup glaze served on chorizo dirty rice. Southern debris grits- Smoked pulled pork and debris gravy over stoneground pepper-jack cheese grits.
Diva Dawg dished up: Crawfish Mac & Cheese and Black eyed pea , collards over grits.
Old School Eats turned an old school bus into a food truck and delivered: Fried Cheese Ravioli with a creamy corn sauce & Boudin Balls-Sausage deep fried over a bed of greens and a "jazzy" chipotle drizzle.
OH LA VACHE had the longest line all night which appeared to be a fan favorite with Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sliders on a Biscuit instead of a bun with a side of Fries.
Inside the authors hosting the event sat at carnival like tents giving out swag, autographs and posing for pictures. After capturing a moment with their favorite author(s), guests mingled around cocktail tables munching on the great food, sipping on refreshing drinks and dancing to buoyant music.
The Jazz Fest was a bright and spirited way to start of the convention. Next up at 9:30 PM an oldie but goodie from our RT Con days, "Cinema Craptastique". Hosted by Author Damon Suede, this event is known for its humorous and sarcastic host providing commentary alongside a movie that is so ridiculously bad its funny.
Those of us who attended the first screening of "Red Ridding Hood" starring Billy and Amanda Seyfried will never forget Damon's commentary of the lead actor's look as the "who farted" look. Lol. I guess you had to be there.
Anyway tonight's screening of Vikingdom is bound to be just a hilarious. With the all the crowds tweets posting live on the screen alongside Suede's snarking comments we are all likely to be laughing so hard we cry. Stay tuned to my Twitter feed to catch the action live.
