#TBT Dark Lover Black Dagger Brotherhood #1 J.R. Ward Beth Randall has never felt as if she belonged. Sometimes even her body feels foreign to her. Recently it’s been a struggle to just function. Weak and tired Beth feels like her body is betraying her. Refusing to lay down and give up, Beth chooses to fight back as an investigative journalist for the Caldwell Journal. One night after investigating a particularly brutal crime scene Beth’s world is unexpectedly turned upside down when the proverbial tall, dark, handsome stranger walks into her life. Well, the reality is the mystery man appeared out of nowhere into her living room. But who really cares about reality, I mean this must be a dream? A very good dream but most definitely it must be a dream, right? Beth is understandably shaken not just over his abrupt appearance in her living space but as a woman who has never been attracted to another person her body’s innate response to this mystery man is wonderfully frightening. Wasn’t it only yesterday Beth was thinking she must be asexual? Well, that is no longer a concern. The mystery man speaks and tells her his name. Wrath, really??? What kind of name is Wrath? Wrath’s presence has brought Beth’s body to life. His big sexy, ooh so good smelling body is sparking every synapse in Beth. Suddenly Beth’s hunger for Wrath is all consuming, she wants nothing more than to belong…to belong to Wrath. Living in the dark of night Wrath fights side by side with his brothers against their enemy. Brothers by choice not by blood the Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) are the species best hope against the Lessers. Born to be their king although nearly blind Wrath feels unworthy to lead his people. Choosing instead to lead his warrior brothers against their enemies for generations. Despite the fact Wrath would die for his brothers, he has never let one of them get close. Living apart from his kind and refusing to ever take a mate and breed, Wrath was stunned when his brother Darius comes to him and asks him to be the “one” to help his human/possibly vampire daughter through her change. Wrath tells his brother he isn’t worthy to care for Darius’ daughter and walks away. Moments after Wrath walks away Darius is attacked and killed by their enemies.Wrath and his brothers are devastated at the loss of Darius. Wrath feeling guilty for letting Darius down decides to check on Darius’ daughter Beth Randall.Initially he may have been unsure of what he was going to do about Beth but, as he arrives at her home it only takes a moment, just one breath of her scent and Wrath’s priorities change. His fierce craving for Beth makes him long to belong to someone. For the first time Wrath wishes he could be worthy to belong… to belong to Beth. Dark Lover is a powerful start to J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Wrath’s devotion to his kind, loyalty to his brothers, and his strong dark broodiness is a recipe for sexy heartthrob any reader will fall for. J.R. Ward’s world of vampires is unlike any other I have read before. Ward’s writing is spectacular ensuring the reader is in enraptured from the first page to the last. Dark Lover was published in 2005 and I have the fortunate experience to read it in 2009. The adoration for Ward’s series is what brought me to my first book convention (the opportunity to meet her) and kicked off my passion for writing, reviewing, and blogging. As my first #TBT after relaunching my website, I couldn’t feature any other book or author. As mentioned, Dark Lover is the first in this series which you really should read in order. Currently there are 16 books in the series. Each spring J.R. Ward releases another book in the series. I personally have a ritual where I begin rereading the series prior to the new release. Next up in the series is The Savior which releases on April 2nd!!!! You can pre-order on Amazon now and have it available to read on your Kindle at Midnight. Yes, I definitely do this for J.R. Wards new releases, what can I say I’m a total fan girl. Ward’s BDB series follows the lives of the brotherhood and their battle against their enemies. Each book of the series focuses on one of the brothers and each time I read one I tell myself “this is the best one yet” When reading one of the BDB books you will experience the ride of a lifetime and feel every emotion with an unfamiliar intensity. J.R. Ward brings her world to life in the pages of BDB and the reader is all the better for having experienced the adventure.
